John Vonhof has served the church in many capacities over the past 25 years. Raised in the Christian Reformed Church denomination, he served as a teacher to children and youth, has been a deacon and elder, and the clerk and secretary of the council and church board, in addition to serving on regional boards and task forces. After serving as the clerk of a search team, and finding little material available to guide the team, he undertook the task of writing a manual for churches. The result is the first book published by Footwork Publications in 1996 which was written for members of the Christian Reformed and Reformed Church in America denominations. Realizing positive comments from those using the manual, the book was reworked into a form usable by those across denominational lines and published by the Alban Institute in 1999.
