Editorial Reviews From heels to toes, products to pathology, resources to rehabilitation, this book has it all. An essential guide... - Runner's World, July, 2000 Look at what our readers have to say about Fixing Your Feet David Hannaford, DPM, a sports podiatrist to many Olympians, ultramarthoners, adventure racers, and other endurance athletes, writes in the foreword to the 2nd edition of Fixing Your Feet, This book provides valuable insight into prevention, treatment, and under-standing of the type of foot injuries encountered during hard activity. It is laced with practical pearls they don't teach in medical school. A beginner should use this book as a source for understanding fundamental prevention and care, but it also includes up to date methods and treatments that even the most experienced athlete needs. This is one of the easiest-to-follow, easiest-to-apply guides to footcare ever produced and deserves a comfortable, dry, and cozy spot in every runner's travel bag, triathlete's fanny pack, and backpacker's rucksack. - Richard Benyo, author of Death Valley 300 and Making the Marathon Your Event, and editor of Marathon & Beyond Magazine. This is a complete and practical synopsis on proper foot care and can be used as a reference for almost any problem that runners or hikers may encounter. - Norman Klein, former Race Director, Sunmart Texas Trail Runs and the Western States 100-Mile Endurance Run. John Vonhof has put together a valuable reference book, based on a lot of experience with the ultrarunning community - mainly American but with many members throughout Europe and Australia. The demands of long distance running are of course extreme, and provide a good test-bed for techniques and recommendations which may be of value to anyone who is on their feet a lot, not only runners. A friend who is a personal trainer found this book to be the solution to his foot problems (heel spurs). - Rod Dalitz from Edinburgh Scotland As a diligent student of trail ultras, I thought I'd done my homework, until I read Fixing Your Feet. This book is the graduate course in foot care and should be on the reading list for any runner considering the test of running more than a marathon. - Suzi Cope, first woman to complete the Grand Slam of Ultrarunning. The most comprehensive, highly readable (even enjoyable) book on foot care I have seen. If you have any foot problem, I guarantee you'll find information regarding treatment and/or prevention for your problem in this book, as well as firsthand experience/advice from accomplished ultrarunners and adventure athletes. John has written from research and education as a certified paramedic and orthopaedic technician, but also from personal experience as a Race Director and participating in and providing volunteer medical aid at extreme ultrarunning and adventure events for many years. Fixing Your Feet is also unique because it includes extensive resource information on Product Sources, Medical and Footwear Specialists, Shoe Review and Gear Review Sources, as well as Internet Feet-Related Web Sites. A "must have" resource book for every athlete's library! - Pat Wellington, Ultrarunner This book gives great ideas for taking care of your feet, including how to prevent blisters and sore feet and how to treat them when they occur. It is easy to read, very straight forward and in laymen terms--no mumbo jumbo. Everyone who has been bothered by foot problems or wants to prevent them should own this book. It has common sense treatments which cover almost any problem a hiker may encounter. - Joe Edwards, hiker The first ultra I did was the Ohlone Wilderness 50KM Trail Run and my feet were so blistered by the 20 mile mark that I almost dropped. After reading Fixing Your Feet and using the duct taping techniques and changing from cotton socks to synthetics, things have changed for the better. I ran the Skyline 50 KM with no foot problems and hiked to summit of Mt. Whitney with no complications. Thanks for the good advice. Your book will remain in my library for years to come. - Brett Lehigh, ultrarunner

This is it. The best book ever written on foot care. Everyone who has been bothered by foot problems or wants to prevent them should own this book. - Bill Trolan, MD, author of the Blister Fighter Guide and medical consultant to adventure racing teams. This is certainly the most thorough and practical information on foot treatment I've seen. In my experience treating runners in ultramarathons, I've seen many conditions that were treated 'on-the-spot' with no medical reference available. Blisters, although very common, are usually overlooked and often cause the runner to drop from the race. I know this will help athletes in all sports involving foot maladies. - Dennis Grandy, DPM, former Western States 100-Mile Endurance Run Podiatry Director. Caring for your feet is one of the golden rules of adventure racing and ultrarunning. Fixing Your Feet is an excellent compendium of both prevention and care. No matter how experienced you are, you will learn from reading it. - Robert Nagle, Team Eco-Internet - the world's most successful adventure racing team. Fixing Your Feet does a wonderful job of finally giving us a book dedicated to feet. Every active person should have it in his or her personal library. - Jay Hodde, Certified Athletic Trainer, MS, ATC/L. It's true the writer specializes in foot problems and prevention of same for the running and racing athletes, but other athletes have these problems, too. It's not just about the blister care or foot taping that go into a successful long-distance race, but the day-to-day foot care needed for other sports -- or daily living for that matter. Do you stand at work all day? Feet hurt by 2pm? You're a candidate for Fixing Your Feet. Not only shoe fit and sock material, but insoles and orthotics and foot biomechanics are covered -- knowledge needed for various sports, including that of my chosen endeavor, weight training. Thumbs up on this book if your feet hurt! - Laree Draper, IronOnline.com The best, most readable, practical and useful book on foot care that I've ever seen. - George Beinhorn, ultrarunner This is a book for people who want common sense treatments for foot problems, not classroom or clinic theories of little value. I am providing copies for my patients and making this required reading at my sports injury lectures. - David Hannaford, DPM, Sports Podiatrist to many Olympians, ultramarathoners, adventure racers, and other endurance athletes. I highly recommend this book. This book is great for hikers, especially if you have ever had blisters or sore feet from a long hike. It gives a lot of great ideas on how to prevent blisters and treat them. Very interesting and easy to read. - Matthew Jankowicz, hiker I'm not an athlete, just a "40-something" strug-gling to keep fit. I'm hoping to be able to continue doing my daily moderate 3 mile dirt road up-and-down loop walk for many years to come. This year it hit me: I have to take care of my feet --pro-actively-or I may not be able to continue walking well into my senior years. With this book, I'm confident I can deal with some emerging problems (calluses, bunions, etc..) and prevent others. The detailed information on boots and socks (e.g., types and changing) was especially helpful. And, the recommendations and tips throughout and from an impressive number of serious athletes are a definite plus and make for all the more interesting and worthwhile reading. Obviously, this book is great for athletes, but also dabblers like me, as well as, I would imagine, anyone who spends a lot of time on-the-job on his/her feet. Many would appreciate this book as a gift. - Populore from Morgantown, WV As an adventure racer, my feet are always being trashed around and blister treatment is a common way of life. This book has lots of recipes for fixing blisters plus many other tips for all kinds of foot injuries you would need to fix when you're out there. The trick here is to practice your treatment and prevention, so go get some blisters and smile. - Louis Simon Capistran from Montreal, Quebec Canada
